Disinformation is a topic that many Americans are exposed to on a regular basis, even if they don't realize it. The election, the Corona Virus, vaccinations, and more incredibly important subjects are constantly targets of disinformation. Unfortunately, one of our largest sources for disinformation comes from the very top, the President of the United States of America. Trump is notorious for going to Twitter to spout lies in an attempt to sway the minds of his supporter base. It has gotten to the point where the platform regularly flags his tweets as disinformation. Some might argue this is social media getting into politics, but Twitter is doing their due diligence to try and maintain disinformation on their site and they can't be faulted for that especially when they are regularly hammered about the rampant disinformation on their site. Not all disinformation starts with Trump, but when people like him, who have massive supporter bases, lie, it is only a matter of time before those lies run away from them. It is foremost the responsibility of the public figure to make sure they have their facts straight.
The 41 most unreal Donald Trump quotes of 2018 - CNNPolitics
There is no mistake in the way Trump spouts disinformation and lies. There are intelligent and clever people thinking about how the words will impact the supporters. It will divert the media's attention from something else or countless other ripples the disinformation will cause. At this very moment, there is a large portion of the population who believe that Trump won the election, and there is only one source for that information, Mr. Trump himself. Truly, it's fascinating to watch his disinformation at work. The lies and mistruths pry at an already existent divide between Democrats and Republicans. Trump didn't create the divide but his disinformation has been exploiting it for the last four years and now when it seems the power might change hands, that same disinformation galvanizes his supporters into action. It is incredibly difficult to deal with people galvanized by disinformation but attempt a dialog first, shouting your views at them won't help, and try to remain calm. Some people won't listen at first but some nugget of truth will set them on the right path.
